Work Horses

Best Shoes for the Job

KerckhaertWork Horses are heavy horses such as Belgiums, Percherons, or Halflingers typically working on farms pulling equipment, or on city streets pulling carriages.  Due to their demanding work environments, these horses require heavier steel shoes with a wider web to support and protect the hoof. Toe clips are often used to remove some of the strain on nails and to prevent the shoe from being driven back during work in the fields or on streets.  Many farriers apply a traction device such as Borium to the ground surface of the shoe to provide additional wear and traction.  The Kerckhaert Draft Series provides a variety of shoe options for work horses, all made of high grade steel to provide great wear, and shaped in both front and hind patterns to make fitting a breeze.
